What is Content targeting definition ?

Content targeting also known as contextual or brand targeting is the process of choosing a media vehicule for advertising according to his content and context.

Content marketing is the historical way of targeting in offline advertising world and also the first kind of targeting which was used on the Internet.

With the new targeting capabilities of the Internet, there was a shift from content targeting to audience targeting wherein a single user is targeted according to his characteristics and sometimes independently from the advertising vehicule. For more details see audience targeting.

Of course, a lot of advertising buys are a mix of content and audience targeting.
