What is Product listing ad definition ?

Product listing ads (PLAs) are a sponsored link format offered by Google AdWords platform. Product listing ad is one of many Adwords ad extensions.

A product listing ad includes product image, price, and merchant name and appears when a query with the name product is done.

Originally, PLAs were free and could be created from a Google Merchant account without having an AdWords account. Nowadays, product listing ads are chargeable and are managed from an AdWords account. To access product listing ads, AdWords users must have a Google Merchant Center account from which Google retrieves elements needed to built ads.

Product Listing Ads are charged on a cost-per-click (CPC) basis.

Product listing ads are sometimes considered as cannibalizing clicks and conversions on Google’s SERPs as they are occupying more and more space on SERPs when queries are related to a product name.
