What is Responsive email design definition ?

Responsive email design is an application of responsive web design principles to email messages. The goal is mainly to dynamically adapt content and layout for reading messages on smartphones.

Responsive email design principles and processes are very similar to those of responsive web design. Nevertheless, some particular adaptations are used for responsive email towards smartphones:

- single-column layouts that are no wider of 600 pixels
- some dispensable elements may be supressed
- buttons or links for click (or tap) must have a minimum target area
- landing page have to be mobile friendly
- .....

In the exemple below, editorial is supressed for smartphone version and images and buttons are bigger:
